Unattended Children Policy.

(approved 7/21/16)

Philosophy:

The Monroe Free Library strives to provide and maintain a safe environment for all patrons. It is with this goal in mind that the following policy in regard to unattended children is instituted. For reasons of safety and the well-being of young children, the following rules will be followed:

  1. Parents* of children under 18 are responsible for the behavior of their children.
  2. Parents are responsible and are expected to be aware of the Library's hours of operation and to pick up their children prior to closing.
  3. All children 6 years old or younger must at all times be attended and supervised by a parent*.

Further: If it is determined that a parent is needed to remove a disruptive child or pick a child up for any reason, and the parent cannot be reached or located within 30 minutes, library staff may call the police or child protective services. A staff member will remain with the child until the authorities arrive.

Under no circumstances may a staff member drive a child home.
