Unattended Children Policy.
(approved 7/21/16)
Philosophy:
The Monroe Free Library strives to provide and maintain a safe environment for all patrons. It is with this goal in mind that the following policy in regard to unattended children is instituted. For reasons of safety and the well-being of young children, the following rules will be followed:
- Parents* of children under 18 are responsible for the behavior of their children.
- Parents are responsible and are expected to be aware of the Library's hours of operation and to pick up their children prior to closing.
- All children 6 years old or younger must at all times be attended and supervised by a parent*.
Further: If it is determined that a parent is needed to remove a disruptive child or pick a child up for any reason, and the parent cannot be reached or located within 30 minutes, library staff may call the police or child protective services. A staff member will remain with the child until the authorities arrive.
Under no circumstances may a staff member drive a child home.
*includes parents, guardians, care-givers
